Checking your Fork Truck for Safety
Like any industrial machine, the fork truck should be utilized carefully. However, unlike a car, steering is done on the back wheel giving the equipment a different center of balance. Anybody working in the vicinity of a fork truck and anybody utilizing this particular equipment must know workplace safety guidelines and safe operating measures.
Safe operation of a fork truck initially involves checking the truck prior to using it. Operators should inspect for potential dangers such as fluid leaks and worn tires. The lifts, forks as well as the overhead guard should be carefully inspected. The safety handle must be used only when the forklift is being mounted.
The lights, horns and alarms must be checked to ensure that they are operating properly. Gauges and monitors must be adjusted properly. The seat should be adjusted and safety belt fastened before starting the truck.
To avoid tipping the machine, take turns cautiously and always choose the low rate speed when driving. If the load blocks the vision of the driver, the truck must be driven in reverse gear. Be aware of the location of any obstacles and pedestrians while driving.
in order to prevent any possibility of injury, the operator should always sit within the cage enclosure and keep all parts of the body inside. The forks must be kept a few inches above the floor while driving. Never raise or lower lifts when you are driving or the truck can become unstable. Never permit anyone to walk under lift when the engines are running.
Stopping at intersections and watching for approaching traffic are basics for driving safely. It is a great idea to sound the horn before proceeding as well as occasionally when operating in aisles. That way, you will warn any approaching individual to your presence.
Operator Environment
Operators have a safe and efficient place to work from in the Spirit Delta cab. The particular design of the cab comes as a result of extensive research into the operators working conditions. The main objective is to be able to provide optimum visibility with no forward corner posts and big glass areas unobstructed in order to keep the field of vision clear. The ergonomically designed instrument panel is extremely comfortable and gently rounded. This area has also been designed with an unobstructed clear view of all important information, so as to keep the operator functioning as effectively as he or she could.
Noise levels and vibration controls are kept low thanks to the insulated mounting on the chassis. In order to maintain an optimal working position, the operator seat and hydraulic controls are all independently adjustable. In addition, the steering wheel and related panel is adjustable for maximum comfort. There are 2 multi-functioned ergonomically positioned and easy to operate levers which are provided for the window washers, horn, windscreen wipers and gear changing.
A ventilation/heating unit guarantees a comfortable cab temperature for the operator. The incoming air is replaced by an air filter. This is easily replaceable and the unit slides out afterwards to make serviceability an easy option. The equipment has a robust 3-speed fan for cooling, heating, recirculation and defrosting. As an additional option, air conditioning could be fitted.
Instrumentation
In the Spirit Delta, the instrument panel has logically grouped units that are all accessible. Standard instrumentation includes: low engine and gearbox lubrication oil pressure, warning lamps, high coolant temperature, low brake pressure, applied parking brake and high gearbox oil temperature. Additionally, gauges display values for fuel quantity, operating time, engine coolant and gearbox oil pressure.
One of the key options the 8 to 10 tonne trucks could be outfitted with is the ECS or Electronic Control System monitoring. This allows for easy supervision of the model. All of the monitoring functions are handled by the ECS or Electronic Control System and incorporated by this system. The full text display and the single warning lamp show any errors which happen and their current values.
